Lochter Report - Season of Mists
« on: October 06, 2015, 08:49:25 AM »
The past Autumn mornings have certainly lived up to the poets description of being the ‘season of mists & mellow fruit fullness’ but once the mist burned off the weather felt more like Summer than Autumn.

The bright sunshine meant that the fish kept their head down and at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum anglers had to use all their skills to tempt the trout.

Jimmy Rhind kept three and released eleven using black white mini lures and many anglers concentrated on the much deeper Muckle Troot Loch using sink tip lines and weighted nymphs to get down to the fish.

Ron Taylor enjoyed a lovely day with seven on cormorants and hares ears, Ryan Wiseman caught and released eight on Bibios and Doug Wiseman had nine on wet flies.

During the short spells when a bit of cloud covered the sun the fish rose well as Bill Gibb noted, returning fifteen mainly on dries to tempt nine.

On Sunday there was much more cloud and the chance of conditions brought the fish to life, resulting in some excellent bags. Craig McLean top scored with sixteen while James McLean did well bringing eleven to the net. Both were using lures & minkies.

The forecast is for cooler wetter conditions in the first half of the week, with things settling down for the weekend. This should keep the fish active and willing to feed.
