Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Kevin Moss

Fishing has been much better as some settled, not a lot,had fish moving and feeding on the top for most of the time but there were days when it was deeper tactics which were required.CDC,s,nymphs, grey wulffs, and buzzers did well and damsel and cats whiskers along with white fritzs took over when deep was needed. Each day saw good fish taken with Ronnie Cowie a 7lb 3oz,John Cowie a 9lb 4ozs fish,Stuart Hayden a 4lb 6oz,David Clark 8lb 11oz,Blair MacDonald a 9lber,David Binn had a 9 and a 7lber,Bob Mann a 7lb 12ozs,Edward Dryden had a cracking Blue of 8lbs 1ozs,There were plenty others returned from 6lb upwards to double figures by anglers and Blues gave very good sport.Keith Grammer School along with charity Fishing with Tom which provides fishing for children in schools to show them the pleasure enjoyed in angling and the outdoors enjoyed a day at the fishery catching well.Evenings are seeing some great rises of fish and those who really enjoy the dry fly have had some good sport.

In June the Glen will be holding a 2 day event  at The fishery with signature Tyers and Flybox .Fly tying demonstrations will be held and visitors can tie and try also, its all about taking part. There will be demos on how to fish certain flies tied,Plenty of materials for sale from the well known Flybox company along with much more.If you have a problem with your casting we will have small sessions where you can brush up and help you iron them out.Dates will be on our website and F/B and local press. We are hoping to hold a lot more of these events in the coming months with other tackle companies.Just give us a call if you would like to hold an event and promote your tackle for your company.BBQ and various fishing stands along with fishing for the kids to catch a fish and get into fishing.

Coarse loch

This coming weekend is the first coarse competition, draw pegs at 9am and start at 10am finishing at 3pm.These will be held monthly after this one.

This week has had plenty of good fish caught with Bream to nearly 2lbs,Roach,Ide,gudgeon and Rudd. The carp have started to come to the net and Fred Buckingham had the best at 7lb 8ozs.All other anglers had carp in their catches with best baits being pellet, maggot and meat and mostly with the pole on calmer days. The loch now has 10 dedicated platforms with plenty of space between them so as anglers can fish in comfort.Still ore to do on this loch in the future which will make it even better for anglers.

Millbuies trout fishery

A quieter week this week but anglers who did fish all had plenty of fish and enjoyed the sport given by the Blues as they flew into the air when hooked and didn't come to the net easy.Flies have been traditional patterns, kates, bibios and dries doing very well.Evenings are seeing fish topping and feeding hard and offering really good sport for the fly angler which is not to be missed.

We would like to thank Skillforce,Fishing with Tom charity and most of al,l the Children from Keith Grammer School who have been working hard around the lochs repairing bridges and paths and tidying the loch for the general public to enjoy what these lochs have offer. They have done a fantastic job and worked really hard and wehope the general public who use the lochs and walkways appreciate the effort they have put in and keep them clean using bins and taking away dog waste rather than just leave it for others to clean up.Be responsible.

One of the beautifull Blues from the lochs returned.
The helpers from Keith Grammer at Millbuies thankyou all and Skillforce and Charity ,Fishing with Tom
