Conditions were ideal for the Spring Singles Event at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum on Sunday. Overcast and with a nice breeze anglers used everything from buzzers to blobs to try to tempt the fish. In the morning session lures were the answer but after lunch the trout got decidedly picky and small nymphs & buzzers were required.
When the final whistle sounded it was experienced angler Peter Wilson who was first with sixteen, fish closely followed by Andrew Lindsay with thirteen and Brian Ross with ten. The prize for the last fish caught went to Bill Bain.
During the week the fishing got better & better as the weather settled culminating with Bill Gibb catching & releasing no fewer than twenty seven on Saturday using a mix of blobs & bloodworms. The blobby boys, Doug Mair & Bill Ferris were right amongst the action with twenty three between them, while another blobber TJ Van Loggerenberg had eleven to his name.
Earlier in the week buzzers had been doing well with Bill Robertson scoring nine and Albert Trail & Stewart Raeburn netting six apiece.
It has been good to see lots of youngsters out enjoying a bit of fresh air & fishing on their holidays. Hopefully the shape of things to come.
