Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

Cauld Blew the Bitter Biting North
These words from our National Bard Robert Burns were certainly appropriate during the past few days as winter defended.

Fishing at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum was not for the faint hearted. The strong winds served to clear all the remaining ice so there was plenty of water to fish and those who layered up put on their hummel doddies and ventured forth were not disappointed.

George Moir had a lovely 5lb specimen among his bag of four, all tempted by his damsel nymphs while Kevin Roberts used montanas to net six hard fighting fish.

Trout are feeding deep on bloodworms and hog louse so Brian Ross took the hint and used shrimp like imitations which are very similar to hog louse and bagged seven in rapid order. Paul Chalmers went down the bloodworm route and was rewarded with five nice fish.

Entries are coming in for the ever popular Robbie Burns Pairs event. It is scheduled for Sunday 25th January at 9am. Keeping the tradition alive, haggis neeps and tatties will be served at lunchtime to warm the cockles of competitors.

Anglers wishing to compete can contact the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000 or by e-mail to info@lochter.co.uk
