Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen temperatures drop to more seasonal levels and with the relative absence of wind and rain fishing cinditions have been quite favourable. The fish are now feeding at lower levels or on the bottom with most fish being caught on lures of various colour and combinations. Anglers have now resorted to intermediate or sinking lines although floating lines with a longer leader and slower retrieve have enjoyed considerable success.
The best catch this week fell to K Reid, Gardenstown who landed 21 fish including one of 8lb using a black bodied cat's whisker. Other notable catches included; A Murray, Gardenstown, 23 fish, (black cat, pink fritz), S Paterson, Aberdeen, 8 fish, (pink bunny leech), C Camp, Worthing, 6 fish, (blue fritz), S Reid, Oldmeldrum, 6 fish, (bloodworm, cormorant), D Mackie, Fraserburgh, 6 fish, (black WSW), A Mackie, Fraserburgh, 5 fish, (budgie), K Maddocks, Aberdeen, 5 fish, (pink bunny leech).
The forecast for the coming week suggests a further drop in temperature during the first half with a slight rise towards the weekend. Wind conditions may be variable and squally winter showers may be seen.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8am til dusk. Booking is not necessary and visitors and novices are always welcome. Boats (where required) rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery.
