So I won a competition on another forum  :X4 prize was $150 to spend in the Allen Fly Fishing shop, hence my earlier query.

I went slightly over the $150 and bought one of these http://www.allenflyfishing.com/kraken-reel-series/ in a size V and in black. It arrived yesterday but only after paying mucho dinero to the customs and excise man which annoyed me ever so slightly  :mad

First impressions of the reel are good, very good. The drag is impressive, build is very good but it is a light reel.
Fair play though, it is really intended as a big reel for salt water single handers. I quite like it, design is very similar to a number of other products on the market and clearly mimics elements of design from Hardy & Orvis. We will see how it goes, haven't decided quite what to do with it yet.

H

Looks rather funky! In like the open cage design.

Get our on some of those Northern lochs with a 9 weight and big fly ;)
