Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Anglers visiting Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum are set for a fishing bonanza. The ‘Troots Tail’ which has been used to bring on fish all summer has been emptied and all the trout stocked in the three lochs. There was an assortment of blues, rainbows and browns some into double figures netted out and anglers who connect with one of these will know all about it. The fishery is recommending that fishers use ten to twelve round breaking strain tippers to avoid being snapped.

During the week there has been plenty of action and plenty of fish caught. Ronnie Ewen had a very good day with fifteen taken on cormorants and nomads. Bill Buchan had two doubles in his bag of fourteen, which fell for his cats whisker. Also getting into double figures was Peter Young, with twelve on WSW’s and A. Watt who had ten on fritz flies. Mike Frost kept three for 14.5lbs and released eight again, all on fritz’s.

Sparklers and fritz’s have been particularly effective now that the trout are focusing more on the minnows and sticklebacks but buzzers and nymphs have also had their successes particularly towards the middle of the day as temperatures lifted.

At the time of writing it is mild for this time of year, ideal for a good days fishing!
