Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery report w/e 18/10/14
« on: October 19, 2014, 15:38:53 PM »
The past week has enjoyed predominantly favourable fishing weather with light westerly winds and occasional rainfall but mainly noted is the reasonably high temperatures for this time of the year. The water temperature is now noticeably lower and the fish feeding habits seem to be in a transitional period with lures and intermediate lines enjoying more and more success whilst the dry fly is still accounting for some catches.
The secret to success seems to lie in fishing depth as well as the retrieving speed and as light conditions change hour by hour, anglers must be prepared to adjust their fishing methods.
The best recorded catches for this week fell to; P Keir, Fyvie, 39 fish, (olive fritz, olive WSW), A Murray, Gardenstown, 17 fish, (black fritz, cat's whisker), M McPherson, Lhanbryde, 12 fish, (damsel, dry fly), C Stephen, Fraserburgh, 9 fish, (yellow fritz), N Thomson, Turriff, 8 fish, (nomad, buzzer), C Field, Fraserburgh, 7 fish, (pink blob, bloodworm), J McKay, Macduff, 7 fish, (pink blob).
The forecast for the coming week appears favourable with some rain/wind predicted but temperatures remaining at an above seasonal average.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8am til 6pm but closing times will be adjusted according to light conditions and the impending arrival of "winter time".
Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats (where required) rods and tackle are available for hire at the fishery.
