Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen temperatures drop, very little rain and only moderate winds over fairly short periods. These conditions have encouraged the fish to go deeper however some activity remained in the upper reaches of the water although the success for dry flies was rather limited with the Klinkhammer proving most successful. Lures varied in colour but black or partial black proved most successful with olive green and orange following close behind. Some anglers have now changed to intermediate lines and this coupled with a quick, jerky retrieve has proved successful.
The best recorded catches this week fell to; P Keir, Fyvie, 52 fish, (black fritz), A Murray, Gardenstown, 22 fish, (black/green fritz, white nomad), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 15 fish, (olive WSW), J West, Fraserburgh, 14 fish, (cat's whisker, blob, WSW), K Fraser, Greeness, 13 fish, (olive/red lure), R Deeming, Birmingham, 11 fish, (orange fritz), N Thomson, Turriff, 8 fish, (white fritz).
The weather for the coming week looks rather mixed with heavy rainfall predicted for Monday accompanied by strong westerly winds and a lowering of temperatures to more seasonal averages.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8am. Closing times will be adjusted according to light but should remain at 6:30 - 7pm. Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats (where required), rods and tackle are available for hire at the fishery.
