Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery report w/e 2/8/14
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:22:38 AM »
The past week has proved very difficult and tested the mettle of many anglers. The fish were very reluctant to feed and refused many attempts to catch them with lures, wet flies, buzzers and dries. In common with other fishery the weather has been less than perfect with periods of bright sunshine increasing water temperature which in turn decreased oxygen levels leaving the fish quite lethargic which combined with an abundance of natural feed led to the difficult conditions.
However, on the bright side, some anglers were able to adapt to the varying conditions and were able to land some fish. The best recorded catches this week fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 13 fish, (Black nomad, Fritz), A Caithness, Dunfermline, 11 fish, (Buzzers, dry flies), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (Red/Black Spider), B McLaren, Kirriemuir, 7 fish, (Dry fly, Buzzer), N Thomson, Turriff, 6 fish, (Buzzers), M Rawling, Fraserburgh, 6 fish, (Bunny Leech), L Davidson, Macduff, 5 fish, (Cormorant), W Mulligan, Kirriemuir, 5 fish, (Buzzer, dry).
The weather has changed this weekend with lower temperatures and the arrival of some rainfall which combined should help to lower water temperature and renew fish appetites.
