Glen of Rothes trout and coarse fishery

A better week with some welcome fresh rain which has been needed to freshen up the lochs and it helped alot. With plenty of blues in the water now anglers are seeing why they are such good fish with many between 3 and 4 lbs and bars of silver. When hooked they certainly show why they fight twice above their weight. Each day is different as the conditions change and tactics need to be adjusted accordingly.Browns have also been a feature with some coming out each day with the best around 2and half lbs and Jim Eddie had a nice Tiger trout to 4lbs.Other good fish this week were John Watt 4lb 4ozs,Archie Miller had a decent brace of 8lb 9ozs with fish of 4lb 9 and a 3lb 10ozs Blue. Most anglers averaged between 3 and 5 fish with best overall for anglers at 8 fish a session for Neil Smith,Bob Mann,John McKenzie,Stuart Geddes had 7,Barry Purcell 7,and Brian Raw had 6.Best flies have been nymphs, buzzers and lures have been vivas and yellow dancers. The club competion for members is on Sun 1st June and does not effect day angling on the lochs. All night comp is 21st June into 22nd June with BBQ for members and guests, more details will be on web and facebook. We are now stocking twice weekly so as rods during the week have plenty of fish so there will always be plenty around to tempt.

Coarse Loch

Again it was weather dependant but anglers who fished did catch well which is becoming the norm now on the lochs. The usual methods and baits worked with good bags of Carp including crucians,Ide,roach, rudd and gudgeon and Bream did very well for anglers with good bags this week.

Millbuies Trout Fishery

Plenty of good fishing here with smaller more imatitive patterns doing well.Lures were the order of the day when weather conditions changed and fish went down and needed to be encouraged to take.Good to see plenty of rising fish around the lochs which will see good sport for those who enjoy dry fly fishing. Some of the returns this week were,P Logan 1,Peter Logan 5,George Dodds 2, Gary Gormley 8,Ian Drummond 2,Colin Campbell 1,Graham Sinclair 1,G Greenlees 2,John Birtles 2,Among the catches Blues showed very well and with a good head of them now in the lochs and known for their fighting qualities strength of nylon is important to avoid been broken. Both lochs are fishing well with no weeds and the water crystal clear.Around the margins is the place to entice a fish or two. The weekend was the Scierra Pairs heats and was great fishing despite the two days being different with conditions. The winners from Saturday were Kevin Neri and John Brown who bagged up by 11am with 8 fish and it was the time bonus that was important.Blues were all returned and added to the excitement especially when needing just one fish to get your bonus and you hook into a blue.Average size of fish weighed in overall was just over the 2lbs.
Sunday it was lures as the drizzle and cold put fish down and the winners were Marc Moss and Kevin Moss.Again the average size of fish were up around the 2lb plus mark and blues added again to the fun on the day.Overall it was a good weekend of heats and enjoyed by all who took part. Thanks to Ian Bancroft who marshalled the weekend event.
