Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen anglers enjoy settled fishing conditions with only the occasional interruption of heavy showers which passed over quite quickly. The water level has remained constant although slightly discoloured. A heavier rainfall period would be welcome to give a flush of fresh water. At this stage the water is remaining weed free and fishing at depth on lures has been productive this week. Buzzers are also proving fruitful although now fished deeper on a lower retrieve.
The best recorded caches this week fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 33 fish, (budgie/various lures), C McPhee, Peterhead, 24 fish, (buzzers), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 16 fish, (various lures/buzzers), I Fraser, New Byth, 11 fish, (damsel nymph), B Milne, Whitehills, 11 fish, (yellow fritz), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 11 fish, (buzzers), S Donovan, Cruden Bay, 10 fish, (hare's ear/buzzers), J Dewar, Fraserburgh, 9 fish, (WSW), l Sleeman, Macduff, 9 fish, (yellow dancer), N Thomson, Turriff, 9 fish, (buzzers).
The forecast for this week is remaining rather mixed but temperatures should gradually rise towards the latter half of the week. Intermittent rain showers should continue. A more settled period may herald the return of surface activity with the dry fly a prospect.
