Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen more settled weather with seasonal temperatures and only slight breezes which has led to a very productive week for anglers with some notable catches.
The abundance of surface activity has led to good dry fly catches with S Whyte, Fraserburgh landing 24 fish in his session using a small brown dry fly. The use of buzzers and emergers have also produced good catches indicating again that the fish are feeding actively in the top 2ft of the water column.
Yesterday (Saturday) saw the fish off for the 2013 Troutmaster competition with G Littler from Newmachar emerging with a catch of 9 fish and a weight of 18lb 6oz closely followed by N Thomson from Turriff with 8 fish and a weight of 15lb 9oz.
The best recorded catches this week were: A Murray, Gardenstown, 29 fish, (various lures), S Whyte, Fraserburgh, 24 fish, (brown dry), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 16 fish, (WSW), N Thomson, Turriff, 16 fish, (buzzers), P Keir, Fyvie, 16 fish, (Bibio), G Littler, Newmachar, 14 fish, (Shipmans buzzer), J West, Fraserburgh, 12 fish, (dry/olive WSW), D Taylor, Aberdeen, 10 fish, (black buzzer), K Fraser, Greeness, 9 fish, (buzzers), C Mellion, New Pitsligo), 9 fish, bunny leech/black spider), N Brodie, Turriff, 8 fish, (buzzers), C Watson, New Deer, 8 fish, (buzzers).
The weather forecast suggests that the latter half of next week will see a lowering in temperature and a more mixed outlook. It will be interesting to see the effect (if any) on the surface activity.
