Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen better weather with more seasonable temperatures and a light breeze and has proved conducive to good fishing. The morning activity on the surface has been quite exceptional with a constant rise of feeding fish although these have proven elusive to the dry fly they have been contacted more easily on the buzzer on a slow retrieve and fished two feet below the surface.
As normal at this time of year the fish are caught "betwixt and between" with good catches still being obtained from various lures fished on intermediate lines on a quick retrieve. During the course of each session the fish are varying in their feeding depth leading to an on/off situation for the angler not prepared to change tackle to suit.
This week saw A Murray, Gardenstown landing 55 fish on various lures including the budgie, fritz and cat's whisker. The catch included an 8lb specimen and was achieved over several visits.
Other notable catches this week were recorded by: N Thomson, Turriff, 22 fish, (buzzers), M Shewan, Aberdeen, 16 fish, (buzzers), J West, Fraserburgh, 12 fish, (olive WSW), L Davidson, Macduff, 10 fish, (various lures), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 8 fish, (buzzers).
Amongst the juniors A Caithness from Dunfermline landed a creditable 15 fish on buzzers.
