Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Artloch Report

The changeable weather conditions this past week meant that fishing has been ……. unpredictable.   Very low temperatures, both air and water, have meant little insect life and the place feels more like Oct than Jul.  In fact even the trout think it's Oct because they have started chasing the fry and minnows.....   However, when the wind has dropped, we've had some good rises.

As you would expect with the conditions, the catch numbers have been reduced with only 5 anglers reaching double figures.   L Aitken tempted 9, using Klinkhammers and this was matched by visiting anglers C Shore and D Shore, who used a mixture of dries and buzzers.   A Liddle had a good couple of hours releasing 10 from an Bibio Emerger, while R Turner improved with 11, best at 5lbs, using a WSW, dries and buzzers.   I Sutherland released 14, best at 5lbs using dries and buzzers, while J Rennie released 40 over 2 visits (18 and 22), including one of Artloch’s double figure fish, using a Black WSW and buzzers.   J Morrison was also delighted with a 1 ½ brownie that he returned.
