Lathe for turning cork
« on: February 26, 2014, 08:58:34 AM »
Normally I just use a drill and hold in my hand, but it has its limitations to say the least, so I need to sort out something more permanent.

I noticed a certain Mr Goolager had posted a video on YouTube with one solution using a drill and spare chuck mounted on a work bench.

Another option is this http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/Other/Flexcoat-RL100-Cork-Lathe which looks great, but also makable at home.

My woodworking skills are limited to making shelves!, ie, not very good! Any suggestions?
Ok, I admit it, I quite like this salmon fishing lark....

Plenty of hobby lathes out there Rob, you could make your own inserts on one of these too maybe?

Hi Mike, I did consider a lathe, but lack of somewhere to mount one is an issue, as is the cost for something that currently, I would not use that much. (hope that changes though).

So, I found this http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-drill-powered-woodturning-lathe?gclid=CJvL66256bwCFSsKwwodXCUARg

This could be my answer until I find a house with a workshop.
