Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Kevin Moss

Another season starts and better than normal conditions came with it although it did turn colder towards the weekend which did slow fishing down a little.Overall plenty of fish  caught throughout and depth was key to fish.White was the dominant colour fished on intermediates with slow retrieves. When the temperatures dropped it made for hard fishing but still fish were caught but not in the numbers compared to the milder days.Ice is never a problem with always plenty of water open for fishing even in the lowest of temperatures.Chirs Boyle started his year of to a good start with a tagged fish and £50 richer,Kev Middlemiss had a fish of 6lbs 8ozs,Scott Allan who only started fishing last September caught a beauty at 7lb 11ozs on his own fly which he tied after taking lessons at the fishery.Gordon Grant had 12,Rob Harding 9,Louis Ross 14,Okane McLennan 8,Dan Macgloughlin had a nice fish of 4lb 11ozs and also returned a brown of 2lbs,these have featured quite well of late and all must be returned as they are wild.On the coarse loch fish are being caught but again very much weather dependant here.Bob Jackson had carp, skimmers and roach. The club has its AGM on 9th Feb at 2pm for members at the fishery. We have managed to get 2 heats for the Scierra Pairs competition at Millbuies trout fishery this year. This is a great comp and the final for those who qualify is on Rutland.Application forms can be found on scierrapairs.co.uk or we do have some at the fishery.Having this event at the fishery will save anglers alot of time travelling and money which normallly would have happened for such a major event places are limited to 6 boats/pairs per heat and prizes are excellent for both heat and for finals.Heats are on 24th and 25th May and the final is in September on Rutland.
