14' #9 wanted...
« on: 25/10/2013 at 13:15 »
I'm on the lookout for a 14 footer. Here is a wee list of rods I have used and like to try and narrow it down a wee bit...

Greys XF t? Not the shooting head one, the full handled one.
Mackenzie perflex
Sharpes Gordon
Guideline exceed
Greys g tec

Although I am open to suggestions? What you got? I can spend up to £200 max but would prefer to spend a bit less if I'm honest. Thought I would try this route before I stick a perflex on the ol' credit card.

Tight lines

I managed to pick up a Loop LTS 14' #9 from GAC for £150 delivered (plus free gift). These used to retail at £270.

They still have them advertised at £175 (call and haggle ;))

I have to say that it works wonderfully with a Mackenzie 38gr head or a Rio AFS 9/10 Outbound.

The blank is the same as the X1 (which was over £500) and is amazingly light but strong.

Just a thought :)

I am in GAC quite regularly and have had a wiggle at this rod. I think I am going to contact Davy Bell and take my lines up to the shop to try a few rods on their casting bit.  :z16

Good idea indeed.

Have fun, I am sure you will :) I had forgotten they had a casting pond else I would have come away with a rod or two the other week! Maybe its a good job!

Paul,

The perflex is a really good rod for the money, effortless to cast and will happily throw anything you want to put on it form a light Scandi head to a Skagit.

Cheers

Cheers Ben. That's appreciated. I have been offered a loop multi at a decent price but I've never cast one. I also nearly bought an exceed but it turns out my system 2s don't fit the reel seat!
I think I have my heart set on the perflex. It must be fate! Lol

Whilst wondering about the Perflex, I found out that MacKenzie was not the first person to have a Salmon rod called "The Perflex".

That very famous tackle manufacturer from the 50's and 60's  beat macKenzie by some 50 years with a 14 foot #9 Salmon rod :)

Just shows that nothing is new in angling :)
