Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has been dominated by a stiff westerly wind which hampered fishing until it abated on Thursday and conditions improved dramatically to leave the end of the week enjoying higher temperatures and good fishing conditions.

The "end of season" battle between the lure fishermen and the dry fly exponents continued with no clear winner emerging. The weather conditions towards the week's end encouraged dry fly activity and the fish were feeding in the upper reaches of the water column and very receptive to any presentation as long as it was small and on or near the surface.

The lure fisherman also enjoyed their day with W Senior and D Wood from Aberdeen netting 14 fish on their favoured WSW.

The best individual recorded catches fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 24 fish, (black fritz/budgie), D Coull, Rosehearty, 14 fish, (various lures/bloodworm), C Watt, St Fergus, 13 fish, (wet/dry flies), S Kemp, Fife, 12 fish, (dry fly), L Donaldson, Macduff, 11 fish, (olive damsel), C Field, Fraserburgh, 10 fish, (bloodworm), G Littler, Newmachar, 9 fish, (green buzzer), G Ellington, Ellon, 9 fish, (okay dokay/buzzer).

The forecast for the coming week continues favourable and conditions favour a good week's fishing.

Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 6:00pm. Visitors and learners are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire from the fishery.
