Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

At long last we have enjoyed a week of favourable weather for the full seven days with a mixture of sunshine and overcast conditions, a slight breeze at times and, to crown it all, a day of rain on Saturday. Overall the conditions led to decent catches being recorded although it was very noticeable that the top recorded catches were all caught on smaller presentations and much higher in the water and only one of the eleven anglers enjoyed success with lures. The most successful tackle was combinations of diawl bach, snatcher, buzzer and on the dry fly, the daddy reigned supreme.
The best recorded catches fell to; C McPhee, Peterhead, 14 fish, (buzzers), M MacPherson, Lhanbryde, 13 fish, (black snatcher), A Murray, Gardenstown, 11 fish, (cat's whisker), A MacPherson, Lhanbryde, 10 fish, (diawl bach), N Thomson, Turriff, 9 fish, (buzzers), M Strachan, Peterhead, 8 fish, (daddy), D Hardie, Bucksburn, 8 fish, (daddy), C MacPherson, Lhanbryde, 8 fish, (diawl bach), C Stephen, Fraserburgh, 7 fish, (chandelier/daddy), A Smith, Ellon, 7 fish, (dry/buzzers), L Forrest, Aberdeen, 7 fish, (daddy).
The above catches included a large percentage of "blues" and a good smattering of larger ranking up to 9lb.
The coming week looks set to favour the angler with the longer nights now reducing the water temperature.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 8:00pm whilst light conditions allow. Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats, (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery. For further information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
