I've bought, but not properly road tested yet, some of the C&F (Cow and Field?) fly threaders; idea is you thread a few likely flies on at home, and then pass the tippet through the large wire 'eye' of the threader. sure, not a bad gizmo (they can be very cheaply made with a guitar string btw) but it only helps with threading the hook eye.
if the user's vision is that bad they're better off imo with a pair of cheap reading glasses that'll help with tying on the knot and other close-up activities as well. there's also the really dorky clip onto the cap brim thingies (Will  ) but they're full-time dorky whereas the glasses can be put away after use

Yup, these are perfect if the tippet diameter x 2 + Wire diameter x 2 is less than the ID of the fly eye. Been caught out with that before.

I had the above but sold them off cheap as they didn't shift.  I could take them back in now everyone is getting a bit older 

C&F also do a small box (CF201) with 8 threaders included andspace for another 4.

Other option Iain would be to tie 18" of tippet onto the flies you are likely to use and with a perfection loop at the other end the you've just to loop to loop the coiled tippet onto a perfection loop on the end of your tapeed leader.

I know this sounds mad, but if you place the eye of the hook on the tip of your tongue, and then poke at it with the end of the leader, you can feel when the line goes through the eye.

It most deffinately works with hooks down to size 14, maybe some of you soft tongued devils might have success with smaller sizes?

i'm a bass player, I could probably make a threader for something the size of a shark hook using my old strings...

i can manage to tie a knot in the dark, just about.... it's getting the bloody tippet through the hook eye that I struggle with.
And yes, I think it's time to get some magnifying gizmo too.
