Anglers Ignore Winter Blast.
« on: 27/05/2013 at 15:22 »
Just when we thought that we had put the winter well behind us and moved onto summer back came the “cauld blast”. The snow gates were closed on the way to Glenshee and the skiing fraternity were delighted to have their season further extended. Anglers on the other hand could have been forgiven for bemoaning their fate but they are made of sterner stuff and turned out in numbers at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum and were very successful into the bargain.
The two Rutherfords had twenty one between them at the start of the week mainly on damsel nymphs and Steve Prince had twelve using black cdc buzzers.
Shipmans  buzzers were the choice of G Johnston and eight nice trout agreed .George Pirie had a great day netting seventeen on buzzers of which he kept three and returned the rest.Pete Lay from Aberdeen was delighted to keep three and release eleven all tempted by his diawl bachs and straggle nymphs while D Batty from Methlick used buzzers and an orange blob to catch and release eleven.
By and large it was smaller flies which did best with fish often feeding in the top few inches and proving picky on occasion. Once the anglers had worked out the effective method or methods then fish could always be caught. Finally the second heat of the Summer Series will be held this Sunday,2nd June and all anglers are invited to take part .
