It`s Spring at the Double at Lochter.

At long last the wind swung round to the west and freshened. the biting edge disappeared, temperatures soared almost into double figures  and hatches of flies appeared bouncing up and down in the sheltered corners. The second of the resident pair of ospreys arrived and was warmly welcomed by his mate who had just suffered a week of cold and frost. Anglers young and old came out in numbers at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum to enjoy the last days of the Easter school holiday and the first serious days of Spring.
To celebrate, the fishery is holding the “It`s Better Late than Never to Spring into  Spring Doubles Competition” this Sunday 21st April. This pairs event with prize money of £500 will give anglers a chance to shake off the dust  , get out and about ,enjoy the improving weather and demonstrate that the skills which may have been lying dormant over the winter are still there and are as good as ever! Places are filling up so pairs wishing to compete should contact the fishery without delay on 01651 872787 or 872000 or by e-mail at info@lochter.co.uk
During the past week the change in the weather has meant a change in tactics for anglers with buzzers ,nymphs and dries now coming into play more and more. Robert  Hassin had a great morning on Monday with eleven on buzzers and later in the week Dave Morgan also had a score of eleven using dries and buzzers. An olive fritz worked like magic for Graeme Garioch who ended up with a total of nineteen to his name while the yellow dancer was the choice of George Pirie and ten trout agreed with his choice. George kept a couple and returned the rest .
There were plenty of bags of seven or eight and trout are definitely becoming more active with surface action more and more apparent. As the water temperature lifts ,fly life will increase and this in turn will stir the fish more and more into life. Thank goodness Spring has at last arrived.
