Glen of rothes trout and coarse fishery

Gales of icey winds made fishing very hard for the few who ventured out.Fish were mostly tail nipping with anglers reporting plenty of pulls and fish that did stick were good.Stuart Geddes had a great day with a 4lber and 7 lber on blue and black flies,Andy wood and Wullie Wood stuck it for a couple of hours with fish,Okane McLennan had 7 with a nice Tiger trout returned,John Bowie and Tim Wright had a fish apiece in really cold conditions as did Kirsty and Kris Bouchett. The temperatures beat most others as rod rings froze and fingers chilled.Dancers and pink fritzs were the most prominant of flies with intermediate lines taken in slow as fish just were not in the mood to chase.Ice was not a problem this week as wind kept the lochs clear but made it very harsh for anglers fishing.Fly tying evenings begin this week on a monday starting at 7 pm at the fishery and all are welcome.

Millbuies trout fishery

Millbuies certainly is in a different world altogether,as gales and snow doused the country,it was calm and warmer on the lochs here(pictures on facebook)It showed that when the weather is bad elsewhere there is always a place to go and fish and Millbuies being sheltered is a completely different world. There was plenty caught by those who took advantage of the lochs with Kenny Mclennan 2,Les hearn 2,John Phurmister 6,Dougie Phurmister 6,Kevin McLennan 3,Andy Thompson 2,Barry Oldfield 8,Grahme Gould6,Ian Lowe 2 and returned a good Brownie of 21/2lbs,John Main 4 and Dave Mackay had 1.Plenty of fish were on and off as they came short with the water still being that little bit cold.yellow dancers, damsels, cats whiskers and budgies were the pick of the flies and intemediate and slow sinking lines were best. Both top and bottom lochs fished well and if the weather ever warms up the fishing should be very good.
