It is always nice to have something to look forward to; a holiday, a new car, a visit from friends, an evening out, a wedding etc etc. Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum in turn has an exciting Spring and Summer programme for anglers to look forward to in 2013.
The fishery is honoured and delighted has been selected to host the International Final of the UK Stillwater Championships in October. This will feature teams representing the four home countries and as a precursor to this Lochter is the chosen venue for the NE Heat on 7th April, then the Scottish Final on 23rd June at which the team to represent Scotland will be selected. Local anglers will never have a better chance of getting through to represent their country.
In addition the fishery has a further series of events to interest anglers of all shapes and sizes. These begin with a SANA Fundraiser on the 17th March followed by the Troutmasters Final where the winner will go to Graham Water to represent Lochter in the National Final.
A Spring Doubles is planned for April with £500 in prize money .This will be followed by the Lochter Summer Series comprising monthly heats with a Grand Final in October. Thanks again to the generous sponsorship of EM Diagnostics,£1000 in prize money will be on offer for the Summer Series. Full details of all events can be obtained from the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000 or on line at info@lochter.co.uk.
During the past week the water has been cold as the remaining ice melted and the fish have been well down and on the dour side. Peter Young found a combination that worked a white fritz on an intermediate line and he had a great day catching and releasing fifteen, an outstanding bag in the conditions. Also getting into double figures was Ian Armstrong who used a mini dancer to tempt eleven and was delighted with his day.
Bags of five and six featured regularly in the catch record .Bill Archibald had six using a snow leopard, Steve Coutts six on lures, Doug Mair six on blobs and S Weir half a dozen using diawl bachs and cormorants.
With a definite feeling of Spring in the air and an exciting season ahead, anglers at Lochter really have something have something to look forward to this year.
