I hear you Trig but 'taste' analysis from someone that looks like an extra from 'The Only Way Is Scunthorpe' seems a bit dubious.

I was invited for a cast on the middle Dee tonight.......

Fish took this

fished on a long belly floater whilst wading up to my nipples, very satisfying

Catches seem to be picking up on the Dee, plenty of fish about in places just now.

Cheers

had a last minute invitation last night to come fish the Dee at Carlogie today (monday). Be rude not too...

So, one cheeky holiday monday later, just back from a  grand day out - you always know when a fishing report starts that way that there'll be no fishy pictures... I caught one fish. A brown trout. sheesh. Connected briefly to another silver thing, but 99% probability it was a small sea trout.

I got the call last night while down on the grubbier parts of the Don, breathing in the shit pipe smells and wading amongst the discarded motorbike parts and old clothes line poles (complete) with concrete base, with a disinterested audience of drunks, screaming kids and other dodgy types (myself included).

Today, a slightly more salubrious setting:

and more:

Slighty nicer surroundings than my usual... :-)

The observant, or at least the awake, among you will spot the distinctive orange of a barrio line - today I used the Barrio 6/7 Switch line on an Orvis Access 6wt, 11footer - felt very, very right for the conditions. The rod is grand, and I'm very happy with the way the Barrio switch matches it. Let the other chaps on the beat have a cast, and their responses were favourable.
I was able to cover all the water I wanted to, and never felt undergunned. enjoyable!

Back to the Dee on friday, nice!

Looks ideal! Is the water still very low?

I don't know the Dee well enough to say if it is very low, nothing to compare it with. But it looks low and exposed and bare. But still great

Iain

I agree, an 11' rod and the Barrio switch line is all you need with the water at this level. I had a day on the Dee in early July and the switch rod covered all the water easily and with a lot less effort than you would need with a "proper" rod.

The river is always a nice place to be for a day, even if the only fish you catch is a tiddler.
