Lochter Fishery Report - Spring Brings the Water to Life
« on: February 19, 2013, 10:31:01 AM »

At long last the much awaited warm spell has arrived. There is a bit of heat in the sun ,snowdrops and daffodils are beginning to push through , early nesting birds like mallards are starting to pair up and  crows are working to repair their nests .Beneath the surface of the water at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum  there is new budding life as dormant flies and aquatic creatures stir as the water temperature slowly rises. Teams of flies can be seen dancing on the surface as they hatch from the depths and this in turn has stirred the trout into action resulting in quite a bit of surface activity, the sight of which always excites  and enthuses anglers on the bank.
Top man this week was George Pirie who celebrated his birthday with a brilliant days fishing releasing fourteen and keeping a couple for a fish tea. Okey dokeys and yellow dancers were the flies that did the business. Alan Logan was another happy man with eight all on nymphs .Bill Wilson used cormorants and buzzers to account for seven and Neil Jenkins, L Davidson, Les Mess, and Bob Mitchell all had six each on a mixture of cormorants and lures.
It was nice to see plenty of splendid  looking overwintered fish being caught and giving anglers a real good fight. These beautiful silver fish have done well ,proof that there was plenty of natural food to keep them going over the winter months .They are now becoming much more active which is good news for fishers.
