Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Kevin Moss

The Glen of rothes trout fishery and Millbuies trout fishery begin the new season and new beginnings under the Umbrella of Morayflyfishing fisheries.

New stocking policies will see the introduction of top class quality fish as previous; a majority part of these will be hard fighting Blue rainbows and an increase in the number of larger fish well into double figures throughout the year while available. Excluding any competition days at the fishery, we will be keeping to a certain number of anglers per day on the fishery fly lochs to 30 so as anglers enjoy their fishing without any overcrowding and to allow anglers plenty of fishing space between anglers(bear in mind we can manage 60 comfortably in a comp) and movement around the fishery and which will provide consistant fishing.

On hand at the Glen will be fully qualified casting Instructor Kevin Dawson for anyone wishing to learn the art of fly-fishing, along with other members of staff. Fly tying evenings will be held at the fishery for anyone wishing to learn or brush up on any fly tying skills, discounts on materials will be available for tying club members and it’s a great way to spend an evening, junior members are most welcome. A list of top competitions will be published on the website beginning with the Iain Barr” Airflo Masters”on 31st March and is open to everyone and applications from Iain Barrs website. The fishery will have the addition of floodlighting during the darker evenings later in the year, which will help by extending anglers fishing times.

Entomology days and events will be held and advertised and will be open to all. Learn and see the various insects which live in the water and learn about the fish cycles.
If you would like a school visit just let us know and we can arrange this.

The bait loch will continue and especially for young anglers who want to catch their first fish and limited to 6 anglers.

The coarse loch will soon receive its introduction of stock fish and will have 6 dedicated pegs available only. These will be issued on a booking basis only to ensure no overcrowding and allow for a peaceful settled fishing day. If there are pegs available should you just turn up on the day without a booking, they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. There will be some good sized carp doubles around so tackle suited for this will be required. Overnight fishing can be arranged as a member of staff will be onsite 24 hours each day.

Anyone who would like to photograph the varied wildlife or the resident osprey at the Glen you can book to use the fishery at a small charge early morning up to 9.30am and late evenings from 6pm which will not interfere with angling at these times. Booking is essential for this with a maximum of 4 persons for each time for the hide.

Millbuies stocking size will remain as it was before but with a few tasters about .The blues will be around 2 and 1/2lbs to 3 and 1/2 lbs on average and will certainly entertain any angler. All bookings will continue to be made through the Glen of rothes trout fishery but keys for boats will be available from our new office at Millbuies where Ian Bancroft will be on hand to help .There will be a small amount of tackle and rods for hire and everything you need for your day out in the boat at this spectacular gem of a fishery with its secluded woodland banks and wildlife which will make your day a one to remember, along with great fishing in 13 acres of water .Only 6 boats will be available at anytime as it is all about enjoying the water without any angling pressure. This year there will be its first ever competition consisting of 3 heats beginning May,june and July on the first Sunday of each month where the first 4 anglers will go through into the final of 12 anglers only, to be held on August 7th to decide the cash prize for the winner.Tagged fish will also be introduced.
Club bookings and groups at both venues are welcomed if you wish a loch for the club only, that can be arranged and there is a BBQ available at no cost should you wish to make it a good day out.Bufffets can be arranged for any competitions just ask at the fishery when booking any event. There will also be a “special deal ticket” where you can fish from the boat at Millbuies one day and from the bank at the Glen the next day or vice versa; details for this can be obtained from the fishery.
The aim will be that anyone fishing any of our fisheries will be able to enjoy their day relaxing in fantastic wild surroundings without any pressures or overcrowding and for superb hard fighting fish.

Regular updates will be available at our website Scotland Fishing - MorayFlyFishing.co.uk and on face book with pictures of catches and reports weekly. Also in local and national newspapers and as BOTH fisheries are” Trout master waters”

Reports and results can be found in the monthly Trout fisherman magazine.
All fishing prices for both fisheries will be the same as 2012 prices with no increases planned for 2013.
We hope to welcome you soon, be you a beginner or experienced angler, Fly or coarse angler, everyone can be assured of a warm welcome and a relaxing day at either fishery.

Hi iain
yes it will take time but Im more interested in anglers enjoying their day out with good fish and plenty of space to move around and not combat fishing. It will also help the fishing ,rather than hammered the fishing should be consistant by limiting numbers on lochs.

Jim you will certainly have a good day Im sure, the fish will be your engine so don't need flippers lol.

Certainly anglers will receive some surprises this year at the fishery so be prepared.

Look forward to seeing you for a cuppa at the office.

Iain Cameron

always enjoyed a wee trip up to the Fishery from Aberdeen - best wishes for the new beginnings!

Allan Liddle

Don't worry there's a boat there as well Kevin.
So he buyin a house up here or not, you should run for politics not answering the question.  :z4 :z4

Millbuies is excellent guys, had a cracking session there last October on the dries.  Great sport and great location, the Autumn trees were stunning.  (Wee report in my blog section on scottish-anglers.net  :wink)

Maybe we should have a wee forum day out?

Cheers
