Hiya

Anyone tried using tungsten tubes? I'm pondering using them to make nice small tubes that will sink really fast for the ythan.
I imagine a 1/2" tungsten tube is going to be like casting and fishing a large bead head fly for depth, but make a very neat tube fly suitable for the smaller confines of the smaller river

Any thoughts

Yes, I use them.
They are the dogs danglies in smaller sizes, big ones require 'bravery' when casting without due care and attention.

Hi Sandy,

They are damn heavy, I tend to use them when the water is really cold or pushing a bit, heavier fly = slower swing. When I need to get a fly down very quick like necks of pools they are also useful.  Also worth considering is thin plastic tube with either a cone or a few tungsten beads incorporated somewhere.
Above about 1" they can be a bit of  menace depending upon the line you are using.
