Cod off the beach in the Shetlands

I know the fish was taken on bait, but its HUGE and I wonder if it would have been catchable on a fly?

what a beauty! i've fished that area a few times, usually targeting salmon/sea trout on the fly though  :z16

Its some fish is it not!!

I have had small cod on the fly off of Peterhead harbour, but that would be amazing fun on a 10 weight and lead core shooting head!

I've heard of one local from Shetland who likes to tube (fly fishing) for all that swims (including cod) and know he's been successful in the past.

Shetland has deep water close in with a few good voes offering shelter in surprisingly bad weather.

It's just Shetland and not the Shetlands btw Rob, same applies for Orkney.

I should know that having been out with a Shetlander for several years! She was from Yell. I remember once telling a chap I worked with and he immediately said, "She will be a Williamson then". He was right! Small place I guess ;)

Lol! I do have some stories about Yell and its inhabitants!

I went to a Shetlanders wedding down in the borders. The Groom's brother turned up handcuffed to a prison guard! It got worse from that point on!!

I've only one thing to say about Yell (and Unst), if you ever get a change to go to Shetland, make sure you fish there! Both are cracking spots, and well worth the ferry/hour or so drive...

I'm from Lewick, and it seems the further from there you get the better the fishing does too!!
