Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The January weather is still holding fair for anglers and although the temperature has dropped marginally, the fish activity is still at a good level and the water is yielding some good catches.
There is a remarkable amount of surface activity by the fish although anglers are fishing much deeper with the majority of fish being caught on lures and buzzers. It is possible that wet flies and small nymphs, quickly retrieved, could be attractive to the fish at higher levels in the water column.
This week has seen good returns from the larger specimens with C Fraser, Turriff landing a 9lb and 10lb specimen, E Hall, Cuminestown with a 10lb fish and D Stanford, Peterhead and A Simpson, Longside both netting 7lb plus specimens.
Amongst the other anglers the best catches were recorded by: C Fraser, Turriff, 22 fish, (Pink Blobs, Purple and Orange Fritz),  A Murray, Gardenstown, 10 fish, (Green/Black Fritz), K Reid, Gardenstown, 8 fish, (Buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 7 fish, (Buzzers/Pink Dancer), L Davidson, Macduff, 7 fish, (Nomad), N Paterson, Turriff, 6 fish, (Bloodworm/Buzzers).
The coming week is forecast to become colder as the week progresses but as yet we have not seen any signs of icing and hopefully the water will remain clear.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am 'til 4:00pm. Visitors and novices are welcome and boats (where required), rods and tackle are available for hire.
