Wheres best for Brownies this time of year
« on: 30/04/2007 at 22:34 »
Been away from Aberdeen a few years, coming for a few days fishing for brownies next weekend.

Want to try a bit w/ the dry fly.

Usedto fish Don (Inverurie, Alford, M'musk) and Deveron (association water Huntly).
Are these places as good as any this time of year.
Been reading on forum that trout not feeding on surface much on Don and not a lot of flies hatching.

Any advice on where to try much appreciated

Cheers,
Mannylima

HI there

I would probably reckon the beats you mention are as good as anywhere at the moment, Monymusk is probably the best bet for a few good fish, they are in the other beats but seem to be a little harder to locate.
Castle Forbes may be worth a look and some of the other upper river beats.
From all the reports at the moment it would seem the hatches are ahead of the game this year and you will find a few olives coming off during the day and a few trout willing to rise, but its looking more like evenings already.
There is a great rise at about 5 in the morning, this to small spinners so the BWO's are already hatching on an evening and with the broom now coming out the yellow mays can't be far away either.
So dont be put off during the day if you don't see much, the evening should see a decent hatch and subsequent rise.
