Fishing Still Good at Lochter!!!

The old joke about winter draws on was being liberally dispensed as the first snow descended during the past week. There were certainly times when anglers at the Oldmeldrum venue had to wrap up well against the elements while at other times the temperature lifted and conditions became mild enough to encourage late hatches of flies to come off the water.
At these times buzzers came into their own as S Pringle noted catching and releasing no fewer than sixteen on the aforesaid black buzzers. Other buzzer men who did well included Chris Fraser from Turriff who had eight and nine on consecutive visits ,Bob Campbell and Sandy Gray who stuck to their favourite fly and were not disappointed.
Predictably on the colder days the trout were deeper in the water .This was particularly the case on the Muckle Troot loch where gold headed lures fished on intermediate lines worked best. Walter Senior found that his own invention did the business grassing eleven on an olive WSW while fishing companion A Skinner had eight on a white version of the same and A McAlley  ten on a fritz WSW.
Fritz flies certainly proved their worth during the week especially the UV bodied variety which seems to show up particularly well in the water and brings extra life to the flies. John Parsons had twelve, Neil Smith twenty-one, D Simpson nine, Graham Weir eight and James Rodger eight all using variations of these deadly flies.
Finally a reminder for anglers that the Guy Fawkes Singles competition is set for this Sunday ,4th November at Lochter. We light the blue touch paper at 9am for a 9.30 blast off.Contact the fishery to enter on 01651 872787 or 872000.
