Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

As the heavens opened last week, there was a lot of waterproof clothing on display at Lochter.  Some were showerproof, some were stormproof, however i did not see any that said they were monsoon proof, which appeared to be the standard that was needed to cope with some of the awful drenchings that came down.  Maybe that should be the next challenge for fishing clothing manufacturers.

However fishing lures with either a floating line with a long leader, or an intermediate line, seemed to be the most popular set up for the week.

Kevin Martin plumbed the depths to good effect and got 9 on a black WSW.  Davy Pottinger on one of his frequent trips down from Shetland had 19 fish on his home tied “Potty’s Fritz”.  P Keir had 14 with his best one at 7 lbs all on a black fritz.

Lesley Johnston out fishing with nephew Matt Hope had 14 & 6 respectively, both using a variety of lures.

Steve Yule had 12 on a green and black fritz and eric Weir had 8 fish on a black fritz & cormorant dropper set-up.

One of our most senior fishers John Parsons used his experience to good effect and had 11 fish for his day, mostly on his favorite black tadpole lure.  Mark wallace had 7 fish using a sedgehog 7 goldhead hares ear combination and Ian Armstrong had 8 fish using a variety on Nymphs.

Our Lochter Winter Competition starts on Sunday 4th November with the Guy Fawkes singles competition.  There will be plenty of fishing tackle goodies to be won on the day.

If you haven’t entered a competition before but have always wanted to, then this is the ideal start, as there is a very friendly atmosphere.  Stuart and Bert will be there to organize and explain how it works.  Its a great day out, and food is laid on for you at lunchtime in the bothy.

Names have been coming in thick and fast, so to ensure your entry call Stuart, or the Lochter Bothy on 01651 872787 to put your name down.
