Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery report w/e 29/09/12
« on: September 30, 2012, 13:00:17 PM »
The weather this week has been decidedly anti angler with strong winds from a north/north easterly direction and gusting to 30mph. These conditions, added to the topography of the fishery, led to swirling winds which precluded the use of light tackle and certainly curtailed any dry fly fishing. There is still considerable surface activity and given the right conditions, surface or immediately sub surface fishing will still reap it's rewards.

However, most of the better catches recorded this week fell to a variety of lures which also tempted some of the larger specimens. It has been noticeable for the last few weeks that the number of larger fish has increased considerably and together with the reappearance of the "Blues" has added interest to the weeks activity.

The best catches this week fell to:

A Murray, Gardenstown, 32 fish to 15lb, (Green/Black Frtiz), J Murison, Banff, 18 fish, (White WSW/Greenwell Spider), D Duthie, Macduff, 16 fish to 12lb, (Yellow Dancer), L Davidson, Macduff, 15 fish, (Olive Fritz), A Konick, Bolton, 12 fish to 7lb, (Sedge/Mayfly Nymph), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 8 fish to 6lb, (Olive WSW), W Gervaise, New Deer, 7 fish, (Olive Spider/Buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 7 fish, (Buzzers).

The next weeks weather appears to be mixed again but if the fish continue to feed as well there should be some good sport to be enjoyed and some more of the larger fish pulled to the net.

Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open to all visitors and novices. Booking is not necessary and the fishing is open 7 days from 8:00am til 7:00pm for the coming week. Closing times will now be monitored. Boats (if required), rods and tackle is available for hire. For further information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
