Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery report w/e 22/09/12
« on: September 23, 2012, 16:33:55 PM »
Today, Sunday (23/09/23) sees our first serious frost of the forthcoming winter with sub zero termperature and a low lying haar on the water surface which was preceded by a lengthy period of windscreen scraping. Although there is a reasonable amount of surface activity it must be considered that the dramatic drop in temperature will herald the death knell for the daddy longlegs and his dry fly companions and increase the activity at lower levels as fish are driven down. This does not mean that we abandon the dry fly box as there will still be days where activity will justify their use but as can be seen from this weeks main catches, all of the anglers featured were fishing sub surface and predominantly with lures. "Ah Well", that was the summer that was!
The main catches this week fell to:

J Murison, Banff, 28 fish to 10lb, (Buzzers, WSW, and lures), A Murray, Gardenstown, 21 fish to 10lb, (Budgie), A Davidson, Kildary, 10 fish to 10lb, (Green Fritz,Bob's Bits), L Davidson, Macduff, 9 fish to 9lb, (Olive Fritz, Cormorant), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 8 fish, to 6lb, (Olive Fritz), D Stewart, Aberdeen, 7 fish, (WSW), B White, Aberdeen, 7 fish, (Bloodworm, Damsel), D Coull, Rosehearty, 7 fish, (Copper/Olive Fritz), S Innes, Portknockie, 6 fish to 6lb, (Bunny Leech), I Duthie, Macduff, 6 fish, (Yellow Dancer), Z Hall, Banff, 6 fish to 8.5lb, (Buzzers)

Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is currently open 7 days from 8:00am til 7:00pm although closing times will now be monitored and adjusted to suit daylight conditions. Booking is not necessary and boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire. Visitors and novices are welcome. For further information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
