How to fish the mouth of a river
« on: 15/08/2012 at 17:46 »
I have been fishing the mouth of the river deveron now for a few months I'm new too fly fishing and have had some ok sized brownies on the don but nothing over 8 inches on the deveron apart from 1 lost seatrout. It's really slow moving water apart from one small riffle which is on the tail of a pool but because it is slow moving and I don't see many rises from decent fish what would be my best method or choice of flies? Any help would b much appreciated as a lot of ppl say there are no big fish there and it's a wast of time but I want too prove them wrong lol

Erm not a lot all I really know is from going out with Liam (young gun) has just basically said blind fishing them through deep pools has been effective for his mate. But apart from that am not sure on patterns or methods really but I would presume it would be a sinking line? But any info would help and I will give it a try     Many thanks josh

Any sand eel type pattern (blue /silver), snake flies,  best time to fish the estuary is before and after high tide, thats when the fish will be running the river.
