Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery report w/e 04/08/12
« on: August 05, 2012, 13:47:27 PM »
A week of reasonably settled weather and raised temperatures which suggested better fishing conditions and the likelihood of some dry fly action. However, with the abundance of natural feeding it has proved difficult to entice the fish to take unless they are presented with a lure at the correct depth and speed of retrieve. Most anglers managed to hook up with a few fish and several were successful in landing good catches. Amongst the best was:

A Murray, Gardenstown, 25 fish, (Cat's Whisker/Orange and White Fritz), C McPhee, Peterhead, 12 fish, (Various lures/Black Spider), L Davidson, Macduff, 10 fish, (Olive Dancer), M Galloway, Boddam, 9 fish, (Dry/Olive Dancer).

The proportion of the catches in the 5-8lb range was encouraging suggesting that these fish are still feeding well.

The annual plague of weed has descended upon us but with time and effort we have been rewarded with clean water and very little to interfere with fishing. Care must be taken on releasing fish to ensure they make a clean and clear getaway.

Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open to novices and visitors as well as local anglers, 7 days a week from 8:00am til 9:00pm. Boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire. Booking is not necessary. For further information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
