Good Bags at Windy Lochter.
Still no sign of summer as the north wind blew and temperatures dropped for another week all over Scotland. At Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum while the anglers had to wrap up well and visit the bothy for regular cups of warming tea and coffee the trout did not seem to mind the conditions at all, rather the opposite. Although they were not active on top, they were certainly feeding down below the surface and providing plenty of action for anglers.
On Monday Ian Falconer set the ball rolling with thirteen all on a yellow dancer and J Souter top scored with twenty one on a dawsons olive. He kept two for 8lbs and returned the rest. Also doing great were M Murray with eight and Nick Smith with six. The remainder of the week continued to be very productive. Meredith Chalmers caught and released twelve on damsels, Alan Logan ten on small nymphs, P Elrick from Dyce eleven on a black and green lure, John Donaldson from Inverurie thirteen, Ian Morrison also thirteen plus two kept for the pot. On a very wet Thursday S Mackie and R Johnston down from Findochty had twenty five between them using their special hoggie fly.
It was nice to see Sandy Carol back after being “nae weel” for a while. A buzzer man through and through he stuck to his old favourites and tempted ten nice fish.
The Lochter heat of the Scottish Stillwater championship was fished on Saturday and was won by Andy Barrowman with eighteen points from Glen McHattie with fifteen. They will go through to the final at Glen of Rothes.
The weekend anglers did well with the improved conditions on Saturday encouraging even the fair weather fishers ( of which I am one)to come out. Malcolm McLure kept one from sixteen all taken on a yellow and green bunny leech. Sam Samikoni with ten, A Murdoch eleven, Albert Trail fourteen and John Weir a dozen were just some of the other successful anglers.
The forecast is for similar changeable conditions which the fish seem to like so there is every reason to expect the excellent fishing to continue.
