All over the country athletes and sports men and women are preparing for what they hope will be a medal winning performance in the Olympics in a couple of months time. Meanwhile at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum anglers deserve a medal for effort and endeavour in the face of a week of really foul weather.
“Wet and Windy” were some of the more polite entries in the weather conditions column of the Lochter catch record but in spite of the conditions fishers did turn out and were rewarded for their efforts. Visiting angler Ken Kennedy down from Orkney, where they get more than their fair share of wild weather, was suitably at home in the conditions and caught and released fourteen on a mix of olive buzzers and damsels.
By the middle of the week the incessant rain had made the lochs cloudy but experienced anglers quickly found that there were pockets of clear water where the fish had gathered and these were the areas to concentrate on. Phil Sellar and Sandy Nelson fishing their Summer League identified a couple such areas and netted nineteen between them using blobs and mini nomads.
Temperatures dropped further mid week but the fish kept coming to the right flies .I Jack had ten on black and green lures, N Smith fourteen on a mix of lures buzzers and blobs while top scorer for the week was D Simpson who had an amazing twenty four of which he kept a couple, again using a selection of flies including cats, nymphs and blobs.
This is the last week for entrants to join the Summer League and stand a chance of winning the £1000 first prize. Contact Stuart at the fishery without delay.
