Lochter Report - Three Seasons in One!!
« on: 17/04/2012 at 09:35 »
We knew that the warm weather could not last and so it has transpired. It has been back to the thermals this past week as wintery showers descended from the north with three seasons in one day in the ultra changeable conditions.
At Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum there were plenty of anglers willing to brave the elements but they had to change their tactics from the previous week to get among the fish. Even in the sunny spells there were few flies coming off the water unlike the previous week when they were coming off in clouds. The trout were down in the depths and sink tip and intermediate lines came into their own with mini lures and nymphs favoured by fishers.
Wilson Beattie from Kemnay had eight using sun blobs and Ron Whyte nine including one at 8lbs using cormorants. Dave Brown from Ellon had a terrific day with fifteen using fritz flies and buzzers, Bill Anton caught and released nine on okay dokeys, R West did likewise using diawl bachs and buzzers while Ron Falconer had the fish of the week a lovely specimen of eleven and a half pounds tempted by a black fritz.
Virtually all anglers managed to get on the score card and many were thrilled to watch the two Lochter ospreys Branson and Libby having little difficulty getting their bag and taking their fish back to the nest for a nice fish tea! This is likely to be the pattern all summer but don`t worry anglers, the ospreys are not eligible for any of the competitions and extra fish will be stocked to compensate for their meals.
There is still time to enter for the Lochter Summer League, sponsored by E M Diagnostics. The prospect of ending up £1000 better off has tempted quite a few pairs but remember “you got to be in it to win it”. Contact Stuart at the fishery for details on 01651 872787 or 872000 or by e-mail on info@lochter.co.uk.
The forecast for this week is marginally better so fishing should be on the up again and certainly more pleasurable.
