de-barbing pliers

folks

I need to replace my de-barbing pliers. Current ones getting a bit creaky.

I'm just not organised enough to debarb all hooks before leaving house/putting flies in the box, so i always carry a pair of these. (I do tie on a mix of barbless & barbed hooks too).

Any great de-barbing pliers out there that you would recommend?
Jaws need to be slim (for wee hooks), flat surface with a tight fit. Had a look in a large DIY store, but couldn't find anything obviously suitable.

thanks folks

Good question Iain :z16

Getting them with a flat surface tends to be the tricky bit in my experience and the ribbed surface ones don't work well.

Cheers

I use the inside of my scissors, under the pivot you have a nice flat surface and it will flatten barbs nae bother, easgach1

Hi Iain. I have been using something similar to the below for years. Think I bought it at Haddo? Serrated but have never found that to be a problem? Use it for all my debarbing and cutting leader etc. Unless you like to trim flies on the water it covers all else.

Iain

I've had a pair of these sitting by my vice for the last 15 years and they are still doing fine, a great way to spend £4 :z16

I de-barb at the vice, always :z16, but then again, i always fish barbless, even for Tuna :wink

Get yourself down to Hobbycraft and into the bead making section. Lots of small, flat nosed pliers there.

They have very fine nosed ones ideal for hooks smaller than a size 14, something the fishing ones don't seem to cater for.
