Spiders and fishing them?

Are you a fan of classic neat & tidy hackled spiders, or do you prefer Stewart style spiders?

Perhaps you fish both, but in a different way?

I find spiders annoying - don't know why - I just do.
Personally, I can't stand the way they scurry about up and down walls, across lounge floors and seem to get bigger come the winter time and how I have to dispose of them as they've got 'great big nasty teeth that will pure dead kill you man like see eh'  :X1

Oh.... fishing with spiders. How silly of me :z7

I seldom fish with spiders, a failing in my river fishing repertoire. If I had to make a choice, then I'd probably settle for slightly scruffy looking spiders which (I suppose) means the Clyde style spiders are more my bag.

I've been fishing with spiders for years but I'm now going for spiders with a fine thread body and a very sparse over sized hackle ie a size 14 hook with a hackle that would normaly go on a size 10 hook

Don't tell kev muir

Mine are meant to come off the vice neat and tidy but they don't all match up to expectations. I use them all and haven't yet noticed any difference :z8

1. Endrick Spider on the point, a great drift-and-lift fly.
2. Brown Owl or Winter Brown on the dropper
3. Occasionally a Stewart black spider in the film, or a hare's ear.
