What was your favourite 'new for 2011' tackle item?

Cheers

Hmmmm...........

I suppose my favourite item for 2011 was my Eden cane 7'6'' 4wt, looking forward to getting to know it even better next season. :z16

For me it has to be my new Meiser DH rod... Didn't fish it yet, but ever so smooth and great feel.....  :grin

Quite a few to chose from, the Access range from Orvis being 'up there' amongst my 2011 highlights but my personal favourite from 2011 is the Mackenzie G2 shooting head. Colour is a wee bit 'different' (in floating anyway) but I like the line hugely and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a d/h shooting head line.

Snowbee Geo waterproof trousers & tay muck boots have been a good purchase for me this season and a spoon for spooning fish has been great for learning about what the trout actualy like to eat!  :z16

Sorry for not sticking exactly to the question as I found it difficult, but here's what I got............

Nominations are as follows;
rubberised micro scoop net for my McLeans net has been brilliant
CDC oil has been pivotal in my dry fly enjoyment this season
Orvis Hydros reel was a sterling find
Mackenzie 8/9 floating shooting head only used for the last fortnight or so of the season but is great
3wt Helios, again a late purchase but love it and had fun with it
Not tackle but more than just an accessory - it's the digital camera

After much consideration, the winner is....................................

Orvis Hydros reel

rubberised micro scoop net for my McLeans net (unlikely but true)

CDC oil.

one of the smaller purchases, and was dubious before buying, but has been amazing for restoring CDC flies to floatable, usable state. quick dot of oil before fishing, a wee rub on a rag/sweater after catching fish, off you go again. Cheers for Mr Goolager's hint about it. oh, and i just bought the cheapest bottle off of eBay, 3£ or so

Are you guys just using the CDC oil on CDC, or does it work as a general floatant on hackled flies too?

Cheers

Mike,

Right or wrong, here's my method;

Standard hackle dries (hackle, body & anything else not indicated below) - Gink
TMC Aerowing - Dilly Wax
CDC - CDC Oil

by the way Iain, although I was aware of it, it was Bazil that brought it to the fore  :z16
