Cheap Reel seat
« on: 06/12/2011 at 13:40 »
Just started making a Christmas present for the sprog.

Plan is to take a 4 piece 9' 7wt Fladen Vantage? fly rod and convert it into a 2 1/4 piece bait fishing/ possible have a try fly rod.

Having small hands requires a custom built handle which in turn requires a smaller reel seat. The one which came with the rod was stripped off but the hood diameter will be perilously close to the OD of the recessed cork handle.

Does anyone know where I could purchase one cheap - the rod was £24 so he is not getting a top of the range reel seat, which is all I can see on the net.

The blank colour is maroon but I'm not too fussed about seat colour & I can measure the handle hood recess ID when I get home.
Also I've bought a butt section so no end cap will be required.

Thanks for any help.

You can buy a Wayland "fuji copy" reel seat for less than a fiver. I think Sloans has them.
