Mixing Bucktail

Is there a quick way?

I'm knocking up a load of Willie Gunn tubes & cascade doubles and by far the most time consuming part of tying each is mixing the bucktail.

I'm cutting what I need of a colour and removing anyshort stuff by pulling & levelling with fingers then laying on bench then same again with another colour, then the next colour etc.  I'm mixing by pulling some out and "shuffling" it, I'm a self taught tyer and this is how I have always done it.

Does anyone have a faster way to do this?  I'm getting very very bored!!

Cheers

put them in a row on the table and roll them together then stack them??

Don't use bucktail much so it's just a thought Ben :z8

Hi Ben. Either rolling them on a table top or simply rolling the two colours lightly between finger and thumb, then stack em!

I've tred to rolling thing and must be doing it wrong as it doesn't seem to mix so well and I end up with tips & butts mixing up, also tried on my palm etc.  Coming to the conclusion that it is just a bitch when used in certain ways!!

What I need is a video from Iain  :z4

I don't know if this will help but I used to get all the colours cut and defluffed and put into individual piles on the desk and then just take a pinch from each one. I would then drop all the pinches, tip down, into a shot glass to get the length right, scoop them out and offer them up to the hook.

I thought about getting a whiskey measuring gill and taking a hacksaw to it to make the same kind of scoop but the shot glass work so well that I kept using that.

The glass thing works with squirrel too.

Oh and Ben, the glass has to be DRY.... :z7

You've probably seen it, but Davie McPhail has a pretty good video on the Willy Gunn.... maybe it helps?
Worked for me...
