Baz,
I started to compile a list of items - consumables, tools, etc. that will or may be required for a typical single handed fly rod build. Other members may be able to add to, or remove, or advise on suitability of these items.

I can help with a few of these things and I'm sure you may have some items already lying about the house/ shed.
Have a look and see;

Blank
Cork Handle
Reel Seat - complete
winding check
keeper ring
Rod Rings - stripper/s, intermediates, tip top
Thread
Cork Glue (handle to blank)
Araldite Epoxy (reel seat/ section plugs/ winding check)
Flexi-Coat Lite build epoxy or similar
Mixing Cups/ Non Porous Stirrers/ brushes
Tin Foil & flat plate
Hot Melt Glue - for tip ring & possibly holding rod rings for whipping
Pen/Paint/ transfers for 'signature'
Burnishing Tool
Razor Blade
Rat Tailed File (or reamer) for cork & reel seat spacer
File, grinder or instrument to taper rod ring feet
Masking Tape - to hold rod rings for whipping, to pack out reel seat on blank, to use to mask reel seat when holding in chuck  and to wrap around chuck to prevent opening when turning during epoxy drying

Chinagraph pencil - White
Cellulose thinners
White Spirit
Lighter
Tape Measure

Home Made Handles ??
Flor Grade Cork Shives
Cork Glue - David Norwich or Gorilla Glue
6mm threaded bar 14" or so long c/w wing nuts and repair washers
Half round file
Sandpaper - coarse to very fine grit
Emery boards, thin files (or end of flat file) if shaping rubberised cork sections
Broach or similar to recess reel end of cork to accept hood
Lathe/ Drill jig for turning

Nice to Have's
Wrapping jig
Rod Turner

you can open out a handle with some 40grit paper rolled up tight, its what I do, you can cut a strip and wind it round a dowel of a suitable size, cheap and simple, easgach 1
