Summer League Set to Restart at Lochter.
« on: 08/08/2011 at 11:40 »
After the holiday break to allow anglers a time in the sun the summer league sponsored by E M Diagnostics is set to resume this Sunday at the Oldmeldrum fishery. With £1000 to be won and several pairs in close contention, the contest is set to get serious.
July is traditionally the most difficult of the summer months with bright sunlight and high water temperatures turning trout torpid and making the fishing extremely testing. This year with summer failing to put in an appearance water temperatures have remained low and the fish have carried on feeding which has been good for anglers.
During the past week there have been some excellent bags ,some from the top of the water and some from the depths. G MacKenzie used dries to tempt ten and R Lloyd eight using klinkhammers . JohnFreeland tied an interesting mix of hoppers and bloodworms to account for thirteen in an action packed four hour session while Frank Smith used his favourite grey wulf floater to bring ten to the net including one at 6lbs and another at 4lbs.
There were a couple of windy days which made top of the water fishing difficult and anglers switched tactics with great success. Most notably,Tam Wood had fifteen,  Ron Fraser eight and Jim Fraser eleven all on wsw`s .
Fishing has been remarkably good and with the mixed weather set to continue this pattern  should remain unless of course we get a late scorcher which at this point seem unlikely!
