« on: 28/07/2011 at 22:51 »
New world Spey Casting record was set at the CLA last weekend by Gerard Downy.  Huge cast of 70.63 metres  :z16

Got some video of the record cast and some footage from most of the contenders in qualifying and the final.

Superb comp this year, lots of entrants and several had not competed before in this event (myself included).

Got a few pics fom the event too

A few of those who entered

Andrew Toft repositioning 95' of line duing the final

Yours Truly setting up another 160' left hook pile cast

Andrew preparing to launch one in qualifying

Scott shows he still has it during a demo by throwing an effortless 65 yards

Gerard Downy presented with first prize by The Duke of Marlbourgh

Travis Johnson receiving his prize for second place

Andrew Toft with the winnings for 3rd place

Looking forward to next year, practice starts now!!

Cheers

Ben

I doubt it Ben, his spey casts were never that great.... :z7 :z7 :z7 :z7

Seriously though, lovely footage Ben. What was the camera?
The slo-mo really works and like Hamish I too can't get my head round that 70m cast. I really love the faces in the crowd behind Gerard. The disbelief and the shock followed by the grins says it all.

Nice work.

Camera is a Casion Exilim EX-FH25.  Will do 1000fps but very small video at that speed, 240fps is still really good as is 420fps provided it is a close up.

Ha :! abuse.......

Trust me, my snoring is mild in comparison to some who were at the CLA  :z10
I have to say that for a first time visit (and not quite in the way I intended) I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would recommend a visit to anyone - so you should go Mr B. Take plenty of coffee money though  :shock

Roll on the next one

Judging by what you were telling me Hamish, I think a second mortgage might be more appropriate if you want to eat.
I'd love to go but I really don't think I can justify it.

Your house is on the way, kidnapping could be arranged.  VERY expensive, £5.80 for a bacon & egg roll served in a stale burger takes the piss IMO
