Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Gratefully we can report an increase in angler success this week with better numbers being netted. However, we can attribute this to anglers being prepared to change tactics, retrieval speeds and end tackle in order to target the fish at the feeding level.

Most of the fish landed this week have been contacted in the upper layer of the water and very often immediately sub-surface with limited success for the dry fly fisher or the lures on intermediate or sinking lines. This was borne out by angler C MacAlister from Aberdeen who visited the fishery on Friday evening and Saturday morning for a total of 3 hours fishing and netted 27 fish to 3.5lb from one spot on the bank.

Other commendable catches were recorded by:

M Ewen jnr, Turriff, 14 fish, Nymphs, Blob, Hopper
A Murray, Gardenstown, 10 fish, Various
P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 9 fish, Mini Dancer, Diawl Bach
J Kemp and S Wilson, Fife, 15 fish, Black Green Fritz
M James, Lancaster, 8 fish, Bibio, Diawl Bach
E Quirie, Turriff, 8 fish, Ace of Spades

Saturday rain and further showers on Saturday pm/Sunday am should help to freshen the water and we look forward to a good weeks sport.

Delgatie Castle is a Trout Master water where visitors and beginners are welcome and boats, rods and other tackle is available for hire. Booking is not necessary and the fishery is open from 8.00 am to 9.30pm.
